Reiki is a healing technique that derives from Eastern medicine.
It involves "healing touch." Practitioners place their hands lightly or just above the body to stimulate the body's energy and natural healing properties.
The practice centers on how energy flows through all of us. If we are feeling sick or stressed, reiki practitioners say that energy is low and could use a reboot through healing touch.
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health says there aren't large, scientific studies on reiki, but it has been used for a variety of conditions such as pain, anxiety, fatigue and depression.
Healing touch combines meditation with physical touch to hone in on parts of the body that might be stressed or in pain. That technique, among others, experts say can be used in tandem with clinical medicine, not as a replacement.
